The lighting for Sportspower’s sleek flagship store, Docklands District, Melbourne has been integral to the overhaul of the brand.
Sportspower re-launched last year after being acquired by Associated Retailers Limited (ARL), implementing a dynamic new store layout to help refresh the brand and bring some much-needed light to Melbourne’s Docklands precinct.
The rebirth of the store is a platform to showcase both to members and consumers what a modern sports retail store can look and feel like, according to Retail Operations Manager Scott Bradley.
“The store has been designed with the customer experience in the forefront of our minds and we wanted to ensure each store is easy to shop, clean, and accessible.
“Whilst there are obvious key elements in each store for consistency there is also the flexibility to maintain a local flavour.”
To support the re-brand, Retailite sought to design a lighting layout which complemented the new store format and offered flexibility to change the lighting conditions where necessary.
“While we were excited by the prospect of designing for the iconic brand, the large open plan project space also brought a few challenges to the table,” says Retailite’s Head of Design, Liam Petrie-Allbutt.
“Our design needed to navigate across plasterboard and open ceiling sections, including dynamic fixture locations which could be moved from season to season, all within a tight budget.”
While the store layout was vast, the ceiling detail enabled Retailite to create specific zones where two types of lighting strategy was applied: Gridded fixed downlights maximized light distribution over more permanent fixtures, while a track/spot strategy in the open ceiling provided the flexibly to accent products and displays that would change from season to season.
“The Docklands store represents re-birth of the Sportspower brand and the Retailite team have done a fantastic job complementing the new store design with their lighting design range of products,” says Mr Bradley.
“We have been working with Retailite for 12 months and are very pleased with the level of service and expertise they provided. We’re happy to be partnering with a lighting supplier that considers all aspects of our business.”
“We are currently in the process of rolling out this new look across the country and the uptake and feedback from members has been fantastic. Each and every store that has implemented the new store fitout has seen an uplift in sales.”
